However, if he steps down 34 stairs he would only require 18 seconds to get to the bottom. Hints : He can go ( 34 - 26) = 8 steps in (30 - 18) = 12 seconds
1 step in (12/8) = 1.5 second
so, steps remain = 18/ 1.5 = 12
Total steps = 34 + 12 = 46 steps
